Pentecost in Retrospect 2005

Dear Friends: Although Pentecost Day has already come and gone this year, in this issue of Crossings we are asking you to take another look at it with us. We call it Pentecost in Retrospect.

C is for
Consider
as in consider that the world has seen two Pentecosts. The first took place at Mount Sinai, the second took place in an upper room; both are described as "gifts" of God, yet the second is given to surpass the first.

R is for
Right
as in keeping Law and Gospel in Right relation to one another.

O is for
"Old" and "Orders" and "Oughts",
as in the "old creation," "orders of creation," and "oughts of existence," all which pertain to the realm of the Law.

S-S is for
Superior Shalom
or "Surpassing Peace" of which congregations sing.

I is for
Incarnate
which is where Christ plants his peace, "in the flesh," in us, in the world, making a new creation.
